Accident at Jalan Bunut


An accident involving three cars occurred this morning (Friday 23 December 2011) at Jalan Bunut, the early morning accident occurred around 9am at the area between Bunut Primary School and Bunut Mosque. The accident saw three vehicles bumped into each other thus causing major damage to two of the car while the other one only suffered minor damage. The accident also caused traffic congestion starting from Jalan Bengkurong traffic light junction. No injuries are reported in the accident.

Mukim Kilanas CBDRM ends with high note




The recently held Community Based Disaster Reduction Management (CBDRM) for the Mukim Kilanas at Brunei Muara District concluded with high note. The CBDRM at the Mukim Kilanas is the 6th CBDRM programme which was held at selected villages and mukim across the country by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC).

During the two day event which was held from 29th until 30th November at the Mukim Kilanas Community Hall at Kampong Bengkurong the CBDRM participants which consists of community leaders at the mukim as well as elderly and youths of the mukim. The participants are also briefed on the method of resuscitation by CPR as well as firefighting using the fire extinguisher.

An exhibition which was participated by various emergency services such as NDMC, Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD), Brunei Shell Fire and Emergency Response (BSPFAERS), YSSHHB Volunteer, Brunei Red Crescent (PBSMB), Brunei Meteorological and Department of Electric Service (DES).

In order to reduce disaster risk at the mukim the participants along with their trainers which was appointed by NDMC took tour around the mukim to assess disaster prone areas such as areas which are prone to flooding, bush fire and other type of disaster. On the final day of the CBDRM the participants briefed on their findings to NDMC representatives as well as receiving certificates for participating the CBDRM.

King Cobra caught at UBD




A King Cobra snake with estimated length of 1.5 meter was caught at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Male Hostel last Thursday (Thursday 24 November 2011). The dangerous reptile was spotted by one of the student using the hostel bathroom around 5:30pm who later immediately alerted the fire and rescue department hotline 995. A team of firefighter from Rimba Fire Station in a fire engine arrived on the scene and found that the snake was hiding at one of the bathroom cubicle. It took the firefighter 5 minutes to catch the reptile using the snake catcher tool.

According to one of the UBD residential college committe (JASA) this is the biggest cobra been catch at UBD as before this a lot of similar incidents had occurred at the hostel complex due to the location of the hostel which is near to the forested area.

Flashfloods at Kampong Tanjong Nangka




The heavy rain which occur since Sunday (13 nOvember 2011) until the early morning of Monday (14 November 2011) caused several flashfloods occur at several parts of Brunei Muara District. Several flashfloods are reported at the main roads and simpang at Tanjong Nangka, Jerudong, Tanjong Bunut and surrounding areas. The flashfloods are worsened with the nearby drains which are clogged with rubbish, muds as well as tree branches. Road users can be seen driving their vehicles at a slow speed at the flooded areas to prevent from unnecessary incidents occurred. The flashfloods recede few hours later.

MFRD Director General visit Marine Fire Station



A delegation of Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (MFRD) recently (17 November 2011, Thursday) visit the Marine Fire Station at Kampong Sungai Lampai. The visit is part of the working visit by the Yang Amat Setia Dato' Wan Mohd Nor bin Hj Ibrahim, MFRD Director General during the delegation stay in Brunei.

Upon arrival at the Marine Fire Station the delegation was greeted by Senior Superintendent of Fire Rescue SSFR Mahli bin Haji Bolhaji, Operation D Commanding Officer, Assitant Superintendent of Fire Rescue ASFR Sophian, the Marine Fire Station Commander as well as the fire station officers and personnel.

The delegation then proceed for a group photo session before being briefed on the Operation D Command history and background which was briefed by SSFR Mahli bin Haji Bolhaji. SSFR Mahli also briefed the delegation on the equipments used by the firefighters to fight fire at Kampong Ayer such as the dry riser as well as the state of art fireboats and fire engines used by Operation D Command.

After the briefing the delegation then proceed for a boat ride around Kampong Ayer where they witness themselves the uniqueness of Kampong Ayer which is the Brunei tourists attraction. The visit concluded with the delegation visit the Kampong Ayer heritage gallery where they also took opportunity to view Kampong Ayer and its surrounding areas from the gallery viewing tower.

MFRD Director delegates visit Brunei FRD counterparts





The Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (MFRD) / Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia director Yang Amat Seri Dato Wan Mohd Nor bin Hj.Ibrahim and his delegates this morning paid visit to the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) at Old Airport Berakas.

The arrival of the delegates which comprises of Yang Amat Setia Dato Wan Mohd Nor bin Hj.Ibrahim and his delegates which comprise of Sarawak Head of fire rescue director as well as the officers from the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department headquartes.

The delegates firstly arrived at the Sungai Tujoh checkpoint at Kuala Belait, then the delegates proceed to the BFRD headquarters at Old Airport Berakas. Upon arrival the MFRD director and delegates was greeted by BFRD Director Awang Yahya bin Haji Abdul Rahman. Yang Amat Seri Dato Wan Mohd Nor bin Hj.Ibrahim the proceed to inspect the parade which comprise of the BFRD personnel from all branches.

From the parade the MFRD director then proceed for the light refreshement before continuing to the bilateral briefing between both Fire and Rescue Department personnel at the BFRD Multi Purpose Hall meeting room. After the briefing the delegates then proceed for group photo session.

After the group photo session the MFRD Director and delegates visit the BFRD Women Operation Unit and witnessing the demonstration on firefighting and rescue operation at high rise building. The delegates also witness a demonstration by the Setia Motors fire marshal team. The visit concluded with the mass Zohor prayer at the BFRD prayer hall.

During their stay in Brunei the delegation will visit various places of interest in Brunei as well as paid visit to the acting Minister of Home Affairs and the Marine and Pengkalan Batu Fire Stations before proceeding to visit to Limbang, Sarawak on Friday

Orchid Garden Hotel Fire Drill







Orchid Garden Hotel (OGH) recently (9 November 2011, Wednesday) held its annual fire drill. The drill is held to test the readiness of the hotel staff especially its first aider and fire marshal in case of real fire outbreak at the hotel.

The drill which starts around 2:45pm saw a scenario where a fire occur at the hotel dining hall. The hotel staffs are alerted with the fire bell thus sending a party of its fire marshal and first aider to the fire scene while another team of fire marshal evacuating the hotel staffs and its residents. As they are evacuating the dining hall minor explosion occur thus causing several casualty trapped in the hall. Firefighters then arrived at the scene and rescue the victim immediately.

During the drill three fire engines and personnel from the Berakas and Women Operation Unit are deployed as well as paramedics from RIPAS hospital are also involved. Present to supervise the drill are officers and staffs from the Orchid Garden Hotel, Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) Operation C command and BFRD Public Relation Unit

Yayasan Primary School visit Berakas Fire Station





A group of 142 students and 8 teachers recently (27 October 2011, Thursday) held a study visit to the Berakas Fire Station. The visits are held as part of the year 6 students activities after their P.S.R examination which ended recently.

Upon arrival at the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) Multi Purpose Hall, the visitors were brought for a briefing on the history and development of the BFRD since it was formed in 1960. The briefing was facilitated by Station Officer (SO) Norzali Apong, BFRD Public Relation Officer.

From the briefing the group then proceeds to the Berakas and the Women Operation Unit fire stations. At the fire station the group was demonstrated on the high rise building rescue by the BFRD Special Squad members. The visitors are also given opportunity to wear the firefighting suit as well as experiencing the fire engine ride. A firefighting and rescue equipment as well as fire appliances exhibition are also held for the visitors.

The visit concluded with the exchanging of souvenir and group photo session.

SR Katok A visit Rimba Fire Station


A group of 75 students and 6 teachers from the Katok A primary school this recently (26 October 2011, Wednesday) held a study visit to the Rimba Fire Station at the Rimba Housing Scheme.

The visit was aimed to increase the awareness of the children on fire safety as well as to expose them to the career of firefighting. Upon arrival at the fire station the visitors were greeted by Station Officer (SO) Norzali Apong, SO Md Ali Hassanal from Rimba Fire Station as well as the Rimba fire station and BFRD Special Squad Personnel.

The visitors then briefed by the officers and personnel at the station of the importance of fire safety especially at their home and school. The students are also briefed on never to misuse or play with matches and lighters as they can cause fire if used carelessly. The station personnel and the Special Squad also demonstrated the high rise building rescue as well as the usage of the firefighting equipment such as fire hoses and water monitor which is used to fight fire at high rise building. Fire engine rides are also held in order to give experience to the students on how firefighters respond to incidents. The visit concluded with light refreshment and group photo session.

Police Personnel Completes Fire Marshal Course



20 selected police personnel from various police stations at Brunei Muara District this recently (26 October 2011, Wednesday). They receive their certificates of completion in a function held at the Muara Fire Station.

Present as guest of honour was the Acting Superintendent of Fire Rescue Abd Sufriyan Bin Hj.Abd Hamid, the Deputy Commanding Officer of Operation A. Also present was Assistant Superintendent Police (ASP) Mohd Noor Bin Hj.Abd Rahman the OCS of Muara Police Station, Assistant Superintendent of Fire Rescue (ASFR) Nazri bin Hj.Anuar, Muara Fire Station Commander as well as Station Commanders under Operation A command, fire marshal instructors and the participants.

The event started with speech by the guest of honour Ag.SFR Abd Sufriyan where in his speech he applaud the effort by the police personnel to participate in the course as it can give experience to the participants who possibly in the future can help the department in case of emergencies such as fires. He also touched that from January to August 2011 6,000 participants from various government and non-government agencies had participated in various fire awareness programmes such as fire drills, fire safety talk. He also hoped more participation from the public are expected in the near future.

The fire marshal course is the first time held at the Muara Fire Station and it also help to bind ties between both emergency services namely the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD).

Accident at UBD T-junction



18 October 2011 Tuesday - An early morning rush hour accident occurred at the Rimba-Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) T-Junction. The accident which occur around 8am saw the collision of two cars. One of the cars are badly damaged while one of the car nearly hit the nearby lamp post. A team of police personnel in a patrol car rushed to the scene to investigate the accident and control the traffic flow. No injuries are reported in the accident.

Snake appearance at art gallery shocked visitors.

A snake appeared yesterday morning (Monday 19 September 2011) at the “Banar Tah Tu” art gallery at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) which was set up in conjunction with the UBD Convo Festival 2011. The incident which occur around 10am caused exhibitors as well as visitors evacuate the gallery in order to prevent unnecessary incident occurred to them. The snake was spotted first by one of the exhibitors at the poverty themed shack at “SCOT” gallery. Upon spotting the snake they quickly alert the nearby security personnel who then called the Fire and Rescue Department. A team of firefighters in a fire engine from the Rimba Fire Station rushed to the scene to capture the reptile.

Heavy downpour caused accidents




The heavy downpour which occur since early morning (Thursday 15 September 2011) caused a massive accident involving three vehicles at the stretch of Muara-Tutong Highway few meters to the slip road leading to Empire Hotel and Country Club.

The accident which occur yesterday (15 September 2011, Thursday) around 7am, saw a saloon car, four wheel drive vehicle and a delivery truck involved in the rush hour accident. The impact of the accident caused the saloon car and the delivery truck severely damaged. To add worst the delivery truck overturned thus hitting the road barrier and damaging its cargo hold area and at the same time causing its ice cubes load to scatter at the nearby bush.

According to one of the victim who drives the four wheel drive said “Our car was slightly knocked by the saloon car thus causing us and the truck to lose control upon hitting the brake. The impact of the braking cause the ice delivery truck to overturn while the saloon car suffer damage in the front and its rear section”

A team of police personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Rapid Response Squad (STS) in three police cars rushed to the scene to direct the traffic. Fortunately no victims from the affected vehicles are injured in the accident. The accident also saw major traffic congestion from the UBD coastal exit road and the Jerudong flyover area

Accident at UBD main gate



An accident involving two cars occur at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) main gate. The accident occur last recently (15 September 2011, Thursday) when slight drizzle occur around UBD and its surrounding area.

According to one of victim said “I was travelling to UBD when suddenly a car from the Tungku side failed to stop and hit my car thus causing my car to turned 360 degree.”

The accident also saw a roadsign suffered damaged after being hit by one of the car and two girls from the car which come from the Tungku are suffered minor injuries. A team of police personnel also rushed to the scene to investigate and assists the victims

Self accident at Muara-Tutong Highway



A self accident involving a saloon car occurred recently (16 September 2011, Friday) few meters from the Jerudong Park flyover. The accident which occurred around 1pm saw the saloon car which was from Tutong heading to Bandar Seri Begawan lose control and hit the road barrier. The impact of the accident severely damaged the car and the road barrier. The condition of the victim is unknown
