In the recently held emergency response demonstration at the four districts by the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) in conjunction with the department 51st anniversary, the demonstration had successfully impressed the public in term of the department capabilities in handling any incidents.

During the drill the BFRD used all their advanced technology which is used in both saving live and fighting fires. At Bandar Seri Begawan the department used their advanced fire appliances such as the Turntable Ladder (TTL), Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform (HP), Breathing Apparatus Tender (BAT) as well as other firefighting appliances.

Also showcased during the demonstrations at the four districts are the BFRD capabilities in handling various incidents such as water accidents, Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) cases, high rise rescue, oil spill and others.

A UBD student who are at the demonstration at Teck Guan Plaza at the capital said “With such demonstration we as members of public can know the readiness and capability of the fire rescue department. At the same time it also showcase the capability of the department in coordinated along with other agencies such as paramedics, police, media partner as well as other government and non-government agencies which are usually involved in any large scale disaster.” He also added that through such events it can strengthened the ties between the department and the public at the same time it also show that the department scope of work are not just fighting fires.

Meanwhile a 12 year old boy from Belait said “I found out that such demonstration was interesting for kids as such demo was not held everyday. It also can be a way to promote firefighter job to the public.”

In relation to this the members of the public would like to wish the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department on the 51st anniversary since the department was separated from the police force in the 1960.
