Fire drill at Swiss Hotel

2 July 2011 Saturday - In order to test the firefighting capability at high rise building and also to test the hotel recently appointed fire marshal, the Operational B Command of Belait District fire rescue department today (2 July 2011, Saturday) held a surprise fire drill at the Swiss Hotel at the Belait Town.

The fire drill which started around 10:50am saw curios members of public who flocked to the town in the weekend to flocked to the scene. Present to observe the drill was ASFR Wan Zulaini Wan Ibrahim, Head of B Command fire prevention, ASFR Md Shazwan Suhaine, Station Commander of Belait Fire Station and Ag.ASFR Mohd Taha Bakar, B Command Public Relation Officer.

The drill saw the involvement of emergency personnel and equipment from the Belait Fire Station, Belait Police Station and paramedics from the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital (HSSB). Among the objective of the drill are not only to test the capability of teamwork among the emergency personnel involved but it is also a way to promote fire safety awareness especially at commercial buildings such as hotel.

During the 30 minutes drill, the scenario saw a fire occur at the hotel upper floor. Realising there is a fire the hotel fire alarm was set off and the hotel fire marshal sprung into action to extinguish the fire and evacuate all the hotel staffs as well as the hotel occupants. During the evacuation a woman suffer broken leg and trapped in the building due to the thick smoke. It ended when firefighters wearing the Breathing Apparatus Sets (B.A.Sets) rescue the woman and she was brought to the hospital by HSSB paramedics.
