A major bushfire occurred last Tuesday( 4 March 2014,
Tuesday) in Sungai Mau village, Belait. The fire which occurred around 4pm saw
the fire gutted a vast areas of bushes in the area.
A team of firefighters in two fire engines from Sungai Liang
fire station were deployed to the scene after receiving emergency call from
villagers. Although the firefighters were challenged with the hilly terrain and
the absence of the fire hydrant at the area they managed to control and
extinguish the blaze with the help of concern villagers. Until this news was
written the firefighters are still trying to control and extinguish the blaze
with support from their reinforcement teams. The fire is also worsen by the dry
vegetation and windy weather condition.
In relation to the current hot and dry weather the Brunei
Fire and Rescue Department reminded the public not to conduct open burning and
other activities which may lead to bush or forest fires especially during this
hot and dry season.
