Electric fire in Airport Mall


The scene in Airport Mall, Berakas turned into minor chaos last Wednesday (12 February 2014, Wednesday) after a jewellery shop staff alert the complex fire marshal on a fire at their premise. The incident which occurred around 2:30pm caused the shop to be evacuated and closed for a while.

The quick thinking shopping complex fire marshal managed to extinguish the fire using the fire extinguishers before the arrival of firefighters. A team of firefighters in three fire engines and two fire bikes later led by Assiatant Station Officer (ASO) Tonny and ASO Habibah from Berakas Fire Station and Women Operation Unit arrived at the scene to standby for unwanted incident due to the fire. Upon inspection it is found out that the fire comes from one of the ceiling lamp in the shop.

Also present at the scene were Station Officer (SO) Mustapha bin Hj.Mohammad from Berakas Fire Station, policemen and CSSU personnel from Berakas Police Station as well as Department of Electric Services (DES) to investigate briefly on the incident.


According to an eyewitness said “I saw several staff rushing to the shop with fire extinguisher and later extinguish the fire using the Carbon Dioxide. Fortunately the fire did not occur during lunch break and after business hours, if not it possibly can cause major inferno as the area are also congested with cars”
