Bushfire at Belait

A bushfire occurred recently (Saturday 16 June 2012) at the PSN Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Abdul Momin at Kampong Pandan. The bushfire occurred around 1:30pm starting from the school football field.

A team of four firefighters and a fire engine from the Belait Fire Station rushed to the scene upon receiving emergency call from the public. The firefighters used several hose lines from the fire engines to fight the fire. However as the firefighters try to extinguish the fire the strong wind cause the fire to divert from the football field to the nearby RPN Kampong Pandan housing area.

Upon observing the dangerous situation, the firefighters rushed to the nearby housing area to extinguish it. The firefighters then rushed to fight the fire as it threathened two nearby houses as well as a sewage pump station. The fire the brough under control and fully extinguished in 40 minute.

According to one of the firefighters interviewed said “The fire first started at the football field and the heat and strong winds then caused it to spread to the nearby bushes near the housing area. Fortunately for us the fire hydrant at the area is in good condition and the water pressure is high too, so it ensure the continuous water supply to our fire engine throughout the operation.” He also added that the fire is suspected to be caused by the dry weather season which already occur for a few days at Belait. 

Four hours later another bushfire occur near the SPARK industrial area traffic light junction. The bushfire occur around 5:30pm at a bushes near the a house. A team of firefighters and a fire engine from Sungai Liang fire Station rushed to the scene after receiving emergency call from the public. The fire was brought under control around 6:00pm
