House fire at Lamunin

A house fire occurred early morning of Sunday (26 August 2012, Sunday) at the Sungai Abang river bank near Jalan Lamunin. The fire which is suspected to be caused by short circuit from the old electrical connection burned the two storey house to the ground.

During a visit to the incident site firefighters had already extinguished the fire however the house owner are not allowed to enter the house as the electric power to the house are not cut off by the Department of Electrical Services (DES). The house is owned by Hj.Ali bin Jambul and Hjh Saidah binti Hj.Tamat.

According to Hjh Saidah binti Hj.Tamat when interviewed said “Fortunately I did not live at the house during the fire as usually I live alone at the house. Before the fire we are ordered to vacant the house after we complained on the landslide which affected the front part of the house. What I regret is that until our house was gutted by fire there are no action taken by the authority on the landslide”.

Meanwhile Hjh Saidah daughter when interviewed said “The fire occurred around 5:30am but the fire was only spotted by motorists who drives at the Lamunin road while the neighbor next to my mother house did not realize the fire as it affect the upper storey first.” Same as her mother they also express regret on the landslide issue which are not solved until the house is burned down.

A spokesperson at Lamunin Fire Station when interviewed said that they received information on the fire around 5:43am and deployed a fire engine from the station and supported by another fire engine from Tutong Fire Station. The firefighting operation saw the involvement of 9 firefighters led by Station Officer (SO) Atoi bin Anjong, Lamunin Fire Station Commander and managed to control and extinguish the fire in 15 minutes. However the firefighters faced several difficulties as the road are narrow and badly affected by the heavy rain, they also need to cross the wooden bridge which connect the road to the incident site. The firefighters also had to relay water from the hydrant located near the Lamunin Post Office which located several meters from the affected house.
