A major fire gutted a two storey house at Simpang 83,
Kampong Menglait last Tuesday (29 October 2013, Tuesday). The incident which
occurred around 3pm saw thick smoke around the Kampong Menglait and can be seen
as far as Kampong Rimba.
Upon receiving emergency call from the public a team of
firefighters and four fire engines from Berakas fire station and Women
Operation Unit rushed to the scene to fight the blaze. Another support fire
tanker from Bandar Seri Begawan fire station arrived later to provide water
supply support. Also present was Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel to
control the crowds and traffic at the area.
The firefighters had to carry their firefighting hose for
several meters to the house as the access road are too narrow for fire engine
access. Due to the thick smoke the firefighters also had to don their Breathing
Apparatus (SCBA) to extinguish the fire inside the house. They managed to
control the fire around 30 minutes times. Present to supervise the operation
was Superintendent Fire Rescue (SFR) Othman Jailani, Operation C commanding officer. The cause of the
fire is still under investigation and no injuries are reported.
