Bushfire at Jalan Singa Menteri, Belait

Last Thursday (28 July 2011) two separate bushfire occurred at Belait District. Both fires occurred on the same afternoon keeping firefighters from Kuala Belait and Seria fire stations busy around the clock to control and extinguish the fire.

The first bushfire occurred at Simpang 842 of the Jalan Singa Menteri government housing area. The fire started around 3pm due to the hot and dry weather which affect Belait District for the past few days. A team of firefighters and a fire engine from Kuala Belait fire station responded to the scene after receiving emergency call from concerned members of the public. However by late afternoon the fire getting worse due to strong wind and dry vegetation thus causing the firefighters to request more fire engines and firefighters to control the fire. By night the firefighters are seen using their spotlight to illuminate the scene. By 11:40pm the fire are getting controlled.

One of the firefighters interviewed at the scene ABKS Yusop said “Although the bushfire occurred at the empty land plot but we are concerned the smoke as well as the fire which are getting nearer to the nearby Belait Public Works Department Headquarters and its residential area. We also concern and worried on the public health as the thick smoke not only affect the nearby housing area but the surrounding areas as well”

Meanwhile at Anduki area near the Seria town another bushfire occurred. The fire which occurred around 4pm saw a team of firefighters and their fire engines are responded to the scene to fight the fire.
