Foreigners drown at Lambak Kanan sewage plant




Two Indonesian workers last Monday (12 March 2012) drowned at the Lambak Kanan Sewage Treatment Plant at Jalan 77. The incident occurred when the workers are slipped down one of the sewage pool thus causing them drowned and lost. They slipped while they are fishing at the sewage pond.

The incident occurred this afternoon (12 March 2012, Monday) around 4pm while the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department received emergency call around 4:30pm. A team of firefighters comprises of firefighters from Lambak Kanan Fire Station, Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) diving team from Berakas responded to the scene. Also responding were police personnel from the Lambak Housing area police post and Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Marine Police from Muara.

The rescuers started operation by searching at the edges of the pond as well as deploying boat for extensive search and using the ASRI tool for underwater search. As the operation reaches nighttime the BFRD Women Operation Unit are also deployed to the scene to provide lighting at the incident site using the Mobile Flood Light (MFL) vehicle.

Public Works Department (PWD) officers arrived at the scene and providing assistance in reducing the sewage pond water by opening the outlet doors. Heavy rains also caused slow progress in the victims search. The search and rescue operation concluded the body was found 12 hours later.
