The two day charity carnival which was held in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) ended recently (2 April 2012, Monday) The carnival was held last Sunday (1 April 2012, Monday) at the Waterfront, Bandar Seri Begawan.
During the carnival various activities was held for the visitors with the theme of firefighting and rescue. Among the activities which attracted the visitors are the fire engine, fire motorcycle and fire boat ride, the thrilling Turntable Ladder (TTL) ride where visitors are brought up to 25 meters high on the TTL fire engine.
A mini exhibition from the BFRD special team namely the Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) team, Rescue Divers and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team are also exhibited to the public. A fun fair and stalls are also held as addition to the carnival.
Most schools took the opportunity of the carnival last Monday (2 April 2012) to visit as well as experienced the daily firefighter scope of works by participating in various firefighting oriented games such as “target shooting” using the fire hose where visitors shoot the designated target mounted on the fire boat.
One of the visitors from Kampong Rimba said “I applaud the effort by the department to bind ties with the public through such event public can know that firefighters job are not only firefighting alone but it is more than that. At the same time the department can also convey safety message to the public especially kids.”
This year carnival is the third edition since the first one was held in conjunction with the BFRD 5Oth anniversary in 2010. The department also would like to thanks all participants and everyone who had visited or take part as well as enliven the carnival
