Major bushfire at Serambangun





A major bushfire occur this late afternoon (26 June 2012, Tuesday) at the swampy bush area at Serambangun, Tutong. The fire which occurred around 5pm near the Tutong Public Works Office destroyed vast area of bushes.

The fire cause part of the nearby Muara-Tutong Highway are covered in smoke. A team of firefighters and a fire engine from Tutong Fire Station rushed to the scene after receiving emergency call from members of the public. Upon arrival the firefighters had to take defensive action by damping the bushes near two houses which are under threat of the bushfire. They also had to worked cautiously as the area are swampy.

According to one of the house owner near the incident site said “The same area had been gutted by similar fire few years back. However this time the fire are suspicious as before the fire we saw indivuals acting suspiciously at the site few minutes later the fire occurred after they left”

Firefighters still battling the fire when this news is written, similar forest and bushfires also reported occurred at hills near Tutong Town, Sungai Liang and Lumut.
