Strong wind at Tutong





A strong wind occurred last Saturday (15 September 2012, Saturday) occurred at several villages in rural Tutong namely Kiudang, Mungkom, Batang Mitus and other nearby villages. The strong winds which occurred around 4pm saw several trees are uprooted and blocking several sections of Kiudang and Mungkom road. Several power cables are hit by the uprooted trees at Simpang 129 and a section of the Kiudang road near Simpang 205. Meanwhile near the main road a wooden garage and several tents for a villager marriage ceremony was also knocked down by the wind. The wind also blow the roof of a wooden house at Simpang 129. Firefighters from Lamunin Fire Station as well as Department of Electrical Services (DES) contractors are working around the clock to provide post disaster assistance.


A villager when interviewed said “The wind is quite strong and it is rare such very strong winds occurred at the village. It lasts for several minutes but it brought quite massive damage. The roads around the village are scattered with vegetation debris and even the bushes are leveled down by the wind. The strong wind seems like a mini hurricane for us”. He also added that miraculously the wind only affect the village but not nearby village”
