Forest fire in Lumut

A major forest fire occurred at the Lumut RPN Housing area this afternoon (14 February 2013, Thursday). The forest fire caused minor chaos at the area as it occurred during peak hours where parents are busy fetching their children at the nearby PAP Rashidah secondary school.

Upon receiving emergency call from members of public a team of four firefighters led by Assistant Station Officer (ASO) Aliham from Sungai Liang Fire Statom rushed to the scene to control and extinguish the blaze. As they are trying to control the blaze they faced difficulty in extinguishing the fire due to the dense vegetation as well as lack of fire hydrants at the area. Beside the difficulties the fire are also spreading swiftly due to the hot and dry weather as well as strong wind condition.

The nearby RPN Lumut main road had to be cordoned during the operation as the smoke from the fire limit the visibility of the four lane road to zero. Further reinforcement from Sungai Liang and SPARK Sungai Liang fire stations are also arriving at the scene to assist the firefighters. The fire is said to be caused by the current hot and dry weather situation across the country.
