Strong wind at Kuala Belait

A few minutes strong wind occurred at the Jalan Pandan Dua near Belait Town last Saturday (9 February 2013, Saturday) shocked most residents at the affected streets. The strong wind damage a catering company kitchen and storage as well as causing minor damage to another bungalow at neighboring Jalan Pandan Satu street.

According to Hj.Suliman bin Hj.Duraman a well known catering entrepreneur in Belait said “The wind occurred around 9:10am and it occurred very fast. Once the wind ended we saw that the roofing at the kitchen and garage was blown to Jalan Pandan Satu by the wind. Fortunately our vehicles are not damage by the wind”.


A team of firefighters led by Deputy Station Officer (DSO) Musa in two fire engines (Water Tender Ladder no.1 and Light Pumper 12) from Belait Fire Station rushed to the scene to assists the victims and estimate the damage. At Hj.Suliman compound the firefighters assists the victim in removing the blown roof and conducting cleanup operation. While at Jalan Pandan Satu the firefighters conduct assessment on the Hj.Suliman kitchen roof which landed at two houses compound as well as the affected bungalow.

Also present at the incident site was personnel from Kuala Belait Police Station, Police CSSU personnel who conduct assestment on the scene as well as Belait District Office Village and Mukim Institution (IMK) unit. Fortunately no injuries are reported in the incident. It also occurred when Belait District was hit by heavy rainfall since 8am.
