To commemorate its 52 years of service to the nation, Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) recently (Tuesday 27 March 2012) held a mass anniversary parade to mark the anniversary. The parade was held at the BFRD Training Centre at Lambak Kanan.
Present as guest of honour to the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Home Affairs. Also present was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. Also present was Awang Yahya bin Hj.Abdul Rahman, BFRD Director, Ministry of Home Affairs Senior Officers, invited guests and BFRD officers and staffs.
The event started with the guest of honour inspecting the guard of honour which comprises of three teams of male and female firefighters led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire Rescue ASFR Mohd Fairul Idzuan bin Jahri. The guest f honor consented on witnessing the parade in slow and fast movement. The guest of honour then presenting his speech which call for all firefighter and personnel of BFRD to overcome the current and future challenge by increasing the professionalism of the capacity building.
A demonstration with the combination of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and Road Traffic Accident (RTA) are also showcased to the guest which is coordinated by BFRD Operation C Command and BFRD Special Squad. The scenario of the demonstration was a car crashed to a chemical tanker after the driver driving carelessly while using mobile phone. The impact of the crash not only trapped the car driver and its passenger but causing the chlorine load in the tanker spilled from the tanker. Firefighters responded to the scene using their fire motorcycles, fire engines as well as Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) tender which is used to “mitigate” the leak. The event continued with the recital of thanksgiving prayer by the BFRD religious officer. The guest of honour then consented for alight refreshment. The event concluded with the group photo session with all BFRD officers and staffs who participating the parade.
