A bushfire occurred around 9am today (17 October 2012,
Wendesday) at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) water tank compound. The
bushfire caused huge plume of smoke emerging from the compound which is located
at the UBD hill. A team of firefighters from Rimba Fire Station in a Light Pumper rushed to the scene to fight the fire and they managed to control and
extinguish the fire in few minutes time. The fire is caused by the severe hot
and dry weather situation which occurred at the area.
A firefighter when interviewed said “We was conducting
routine morning patrol at the area when we saw smoke and fire emerging from the
hillside area. We rushed to the scene and found out that a bushfire had
occurred at the area and threatening the water tank. Luckily we managed to spot
the fire early if not huge forest fire inferno will occurred as the forest area
at UBD and Rimba area are very sensitive and can caught fire easily”.
