A couple of husband and wife went missing since Tuesday (1
January 2012, Monday) at the Belait
River during a fishing
trip. The couple are said to be last seen at the riverside near the old
longhouse at the Belait
River .
Upon receiving emergency call from the public on Tuesday
afternoon, a search party comprises of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Royal
Brunei Police Force (RBPF) marine police diving unit and Belait Police Station,
Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) through its Belait Fire Station and
diving unit as well as Belait Public Works Department (PWD). A command post was
also set up near the Mumong Water Treatment plant to coordinate the searching
operation. Several rescue boats from the search party are seen conducting round
the clock patrol in hope to find the missing couple.
A friend of the missing when interviewed said “I and them
(the missing) went fishing together at a section of the Belait River
on the afternoon of Monday which is around 4pm. When I and them are heading
home suddenly they turned back to their fishing spot and upon we arrived at the
jetty we waited for them until we feel suspicious as we head waiting them for a
long time”.
Road users who travelled along the Mumong bypass are advised to drive
cautiously as the RBPF had placed traffic cones near the entrance to the Mumong
Water Treatment Plant for the access of the emergency vehicles involved in the
operation.
