A major fire destroyed several hectares of forest and bushed
in Jalan Bunga Kuning, Berakas last Tuesday (24 September 2013, Tuesday). The
fire which occurred around 11am caused thick smoke enveloping several parts of
the Burong Pingai village. A team of firefighter and two fire engines from
nearby Berakas Fire Station and Women Operation Unit rushed to the scene after
receiving emergency call from the public. They managed to control and
extinguish the blaze by noon. Similar bushfire also occurred in the Tutong
District this afternoon where Tutong Fire Station dispatch a team of
firefighters and fire engine to extinguish the fire in Mukim Pekan Tutong. Due
to the current hot and dry weather the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (FRD)
are on full alert and the number of forest and bushfires across the country are
also reported slightly rise this week. The FRD advised the public to avoid open
burning which can worsen the current situation.
